Today about 10 minutes before we closed I had an older couple come into the store with a garden shredder they'd bought off us and recently had exchanged for a new one.
The shredder was the cheapest one we sell and it was our own value brand, so I instantly thought it may have broken again - which wasn't a problem because there was a 2 year guarantee on it. It turned out however that a new member of staff had given them a new receipt for it when they shouldn't have - and because it was on offer when they'd exchanged it they could see the price difference on the two invoices.
The old lady was particularly stroppy with me and wasn't listening when I tried to explain that it doesn't matter about the difference because we know what she originally paid for it - it's stored on our computers - and that as it's an exchange she can't get the difference back. She'd had the previous one for more than 30 days and she couldn't just refund the exchange and get her money back.
She was getting so annoyed that she wasn't getting what she wanted that another member of staff came out and tried to explain it to her but she wasn't having any of it.
In the end my manager just wanted her out of the shop so we gave her her money back - which annoyed me because I hate giving in to customers who make a fuss over nothing and giving them what they want especially when they're in the wrong because that usually means they come back and do the same thing again).
Although this couple weren't particuarly rude they were penny-pinching idiots who didn't understnd how wrong they were and didn't appreciate what we did for them and how we broke the rules. Even when I was putting it through for them they commented on how long it was taking for me to put it through the computer .
